State 4-H Beef Cooking Demonstration Competition

Missouri 4-H members are invited to demonstrate their skills and knowledge for cooking with beef in the 2011 Missouri 4-H Beef Demonstration Contest, sponsored by the Missouri Beef Industry Council.

Demonstrations should feature beef recipes and may be entrees, appetizers, salads or side dishes. This specialized contest provides Missouri youth with the opportunity to develop important skills and build their confidence through public speaking, while learning the virtues of cooking and enjoying beef meals in their daily lives.

Demonstrations will be judged on:

  • presentation skills
  • beef knowledge
  • food safety
  • recipe appearance
  • taste

Each county can send one 4-H member to the state contest, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 13 2011 at the Beef Showcase at the Missouri State Fair. Demonstrations will be open to the public.

Interested 4-H members can download the Missouri 4-H Demonstration Contest rules and entry form online or contact their local Extension office. Counties may include a segment for the beef demonstrations during Presentation/Achievement Days. To compete at the state contest in August, counties must submit the entry form and beef recipe to the Missouri Beef Industry Council by July 15, 2011.

Participants should use this beef resource packet to prepare for their demonstration.
