Duckworth Farms Host First Lunch and Learn
Lonny Duckworth, MCA President-elect from Butler, MO, hosted 36 visitors on Friday for the first "lunch and learn" program of the season. Duckworth shared information about his farm and cattle and what he does to produce high quality beef. The crowd enjoyed grilled hamburgers with baked beans, potato salad and homemade deserts. John Kleiboeker presented information about the beef industry in Missouri and elaborated on why we use growth promotants and feed corn to finish cattle. Duckworth then treated everyone to a hayride tour of his farm so folks could see his cows and baby calves, weaning age calves and bulls. They also made a stop at a row-crop neighbors home to see modern farm equipment! Future Lunch and Learn programs are planned for the Leadership Columbia group and community thought leaders in southwest Missouri at Jason and Jim McCann's!

MBIC Participates at Inside Columbia's Food and Wine Festival
Missouri beef and Missouri wine partnered up on Friday to help folks understand the umami effect that satisfies the pallet by combining flavors. A partnership with the Missouri Wine and Grape Board, the "Norton Lounge" was a comfortable seating area where people could kick back and enjoy wine and Beef Tips in a red wine and mushroom sauce during the event's "Grand Tasting". "We know the Food and Health involved crowd enjoys experimenting with new tastes including both food and drink," said Dawn Thurnau, MBIC Marketing Director. "This is a great partnership to reach our target audience and sell more beef, especially high value cuts like steak!"
